Recruitment and Retention Resources

These Pennsylvania and national resources may be helpful when developing and updating recruitment and retention programs in the fire service.

• Firefighters' Association of the State of Pennsylvania:  This organization advocates for general improvement for the PA fire service through different venues such as legislations, training, funding and promotes the organization of fire co./dept.

• Pennsylvania Fire & Emergency Service Institute:  This is a nonprofit association of emergency service organizations and responders that provides information and education to support fire and emergency services.

• Blue Ribbon Report:​  Recommendations are outlined in this report to enhance the volunteer fire service at the local, state, and federal levels.

• National Volunteer Fire Council:  This organization r​epresents the interest of the volunteer Fire, EMS and Rescue Services and provided a wide range of service and programs including recruitment and retention.

• National Fire Service Resource Guide (PDF):  This guide will provide quick reference on topics such Recruitment and Retention, grants, funding and more. It also includes a compilation of tips, tools, and resources.

• International Fire Chief’s Association:  This organization represents emergency responders and leadership of firefighters from a worldwide perspective. The offer education/training in various venues and resources/tools to assist Fire/EMS on a variety of topics. 
  
• Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT): This organization collaborates on identified common public policy challenges. The Public Safety, Health, and Human Resources work group is doing work to address the volunteer firefighter crisis.
